[Jim's communication device is not as he's used to using - despite having Starfleet's logo and being easily operable with one hand, it functions more like a small PADD than an actual communicator, but the touch screen is easy enough to get used to. When Jim is unable to answer his calls, other residents will be met with his chipper voice:]

Yeah, you've reached Jim Kirk. I'm a little occupied at the moment, but don't let that stop you from leavin' me a message. Depending on the circumstances, I might even get back to ya.
